Airport Sydney-Kingsford Smith International Airport, NSW SYD
Sydney (Kingsford Smith) International Airport, short: Sydney Airport, is in the south-east suburb Mascot in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Mascot is the administrative centre of the city of Botany Bay and is 9 km south of Sydney central business district.Opened in 1933, Kingsford Smith International Airport, is Sydney’s main airport and the oldest airport in the world to have been in uninterrupted use. It is now the busiest airport in Australia. The airline Quantas has its main hub here. Sydney International Airport has three main terminals, the International Terminal (T1), the former "Ansett Domestic Terminal" (T2) and "Qantas Domestic Terminal" (T3).
The international Terminal 1is the seat of the airlines: Aerolíneas Argentinas (Auckland, Buenos Aires-Ezeiza), Air Canada (Honolulu, Vancouver), Air China (Beijing, Shanghai-Pudong), Air New Zealand (Christchurch, Queenstown, Wellington), Austrian Airlines (Kuala Lumpur, Vienna), British Airways (Bangkok, London-Heathrow, Singapore), Cathay Pacific (Hong Kong), China Airlines (Taipei-Taiwan Taoyuan), Garuda Indonesia (Denpasar/Bali), Japan Airlines (Tokyo-Narita), Korean Air (Seoul-Incheon), Philippine Airlines (Manila), Qantas (Frankfurt, Jakarta, Johannesburg, Melbourne, Mumbai, New York-JFK), United Airlines (Los Angeles, San Francisco) and Vietnam Airlines (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City).
Operating from the domestic Terminal 2 are for example: Aeropelican Airlines (Williamtown), Air Link (Dubbo, Mudgee), Jetstar (Adelaide, Avalon, Cairns, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Rockhampton) and REX (Regional Express) (Ballina, Griffith, Merimbula, Mildura, Moruya, Narrandera), and starting from the Qantas Terminal 3: Qantas Airways with domestic flights for example to Alice Springs, Ayers Rock, Brisbane, Canberra, Darwin, Hamilton Island, Hobart, Perth and Townsville.
From Botany Bay, the airport is easily accessible by car. There are also several bus routes at the airport but advanced booking is necessary. An underground train service to the airport is operated by the Airport Line and the so-called AirportLink also links Sydney airport with the city. As the terminals are separate from one another there is a terminal transfer available at a cost which takes passengers from the international terminal to one of the others. Besides the trains of the airport link, there is also a T-Bus Shuttle Service. By train, the airport is reached via the terminal stations. From here the city ring road or Sydney Central Station is accessible. The station provides services to every destination in the vicinity.
In 2005, a 20 year phase of development began, involving various conversions and extensions. However, several of these plans were reduced in 2006.
