History
Alaska Airlines' story begins in 1932, when Mac McGee started flying his three-seat Stinson between Anchorage and Bristol Bay, Alaska. Eventually a merger with Star Air Service in 1934 gave birth to the largest airline in Alaska. After a few more mergers, the name was 'Alaska Airlines' was decided on.
In the late 1960s, Alaska strengthened its operations by joining with Alaska Coastal-Ellis and Cordova airlines. And in some of the darkest days of the Cold War, Alaska made headlines with regular charters to the Soviet Union.
