In the third week of August the free 'Prinsengracht' classical music concert takes place on a stage at Prinsengracht canal. The official language of Amsterdam is Dutch; however, many of the locals are fluent in English. You can expect to eat well here, as there are plenty of snack bars and restaurants in Amsterdam, serving up a variety of authentic cuisines from former colonists, such as Indonesian. To avoid being overcharged by cab drivers, ask for an estimated cost before getting into the vehicle.
