History
As a result of growing air traffic, in 1959 it was decided to develop the military air base at Son Sant Joan into a passenger airport. On 07.07.1960, Son Sant Joan airport was opened to national and international traffic and soon after that, its development was also spurred on. During the 1980’s the number of passengers increased steadily, meaning that permanent growth once again demanded that the airport be radically restructured. As a result of the newest redevelopments in the terminal, as well as regarding infrastructure, Son Sant Joan Airport was able to enter the 21st century as one of the most modern airports worldwide.
