Airport Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport
It is located 28 km (20 miles) from the Guangzhous city centre and is almost 5 times as large as its predecessor.
Guangzhou airport in Huadu District was opened on 05.08.2004. It was originally Baiyun International Airport which was 17 km or 14 miles away and was 72 years old before it was shut down.
The airport is usually referred to as New Baiyun Airport, in order to distinguish it from its predecessor, but this is not its official name. "Baiyun" means white clouds in Chinese.
Guangzhou Baiyun International airports was opened in the 1930s and is one of the 3 large hubs on the Chinese mainland. It is of great significance to Chinese air transport and is the main hub of China Southern Airlines.
After being reopened in 2004, it was the first airport in China to be opened with the idea of being a hub. The airport has business ties with more than 33 airlines which operate over 110 flights to more than 100 cities within China and internationally.
