Opened in 1927, the airport is on the south coast of the island Idahu. Access to the terminal is on Queen Liliuokalani Freeway at exit 15 (Honolulu Interstate #1) or directly on the N.Nimitz Highway (State Route # 92), about 9 km or 5 miles north west of downtown Honolulu-City.
Between the airport and downtown there are regular public buses, the bus numbers #19 and #20 of Oahu Transit. Current departure times are available locally. Hotel guests staying at Waikiki Beach can use the shuttle service of the state company "Roberts Hawaii", which operates at regular intervals from the Main Terminal and stops at all hotels at Waikiki Beach. Alternatively, please take a taxi, limousine or rent a car.
