Mata Veri International Airport is the only airport on Easter Island and is one of the most remote airports on earth. Regular flights are currently only being operated by LAN airlines on its route via Santiago de Chile to Papeete/Tahiti. The airport runway is about 3000 m long and also serves as an emergency landing site for the American Space Shuttle.
