Airport Jakarta - Soekarno-Hatta International Airport CGK
Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Indonesia: Bandara Internasional Soekarno-Hatta, is the main airport for Jakarta and the surrounding area on the island of Java. The airport is located 20 km or 14 miles northwest of Jakarta near Cengkareng in the Tangerang Regency of Banten province.
Opened on 13.08.1984, Jakarta International Soekarno-Hatta Airport took up operations in 1985. After terminal 2 was completed in 1992, the airport replaced the former airport Kemayoran Airport for domestic flights in central Jakarta and Halim Perdanakusuma Airport for international flights in East Jakarta. The latter is still in use.
Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta is often called Cengkareng by the Indonesians. The name of the airport is derived from the first president of Indonesia, Soekarno, and the first vice president, Mohammad Hatta. The airport operator is the airport company Ankasa Pura II.
The two semi circular buildings house terminal 1 - it is used by all national airlines apart from Garuda Indonesia and Merpati Nusantara Airlines, and terminal 2, from where all international flights are operated as well as national flights by Garuda and Merpati Nusantara Airlines. The terminals are further divided into Terminal 1A, 1B and 1C , used for domestic flights by Indonesian airlines. Plans are underway to build a third terminal for low cost airlines due to the fact that the capacity of the airport has been reached.
