Liechtenstein travel tips
Liechtenstein: location and weather
The Principality of Liechtenstein is a sovereign state in the Central Europe Alps between Austria (Vorarlberg) and Switzerland (St. Gallen and Graubünden). It is now a constitutional hereditary monarchy on a democratic and parliamentary basis.
Liechtenstein's western border follows the course of the Rhine, while its eastern boundary is determined by the Rätikon, the Alpine mountains. The highest point in the country is the Grauspitz (2,599m; 8,527ft).
Despite its mountainous location, the climate of the Principality of Liechtenstein is rather mild, since it is strongly influenced by the foehn wind. The summers are warm and humid, whereas the winters can sometimes be quite cold.
The capital city and other attractions
Vaduz is the capital and residence of the Principality of Liechtenstein. The city is the seat of the Archdiocese of Liechtenstein, and an international financial centre. It is also the location of the University of Liechtenstein, the Liechtenstein National Library, the Liechtenstein Bankers Association, the Spoerry sports centre, Mühleholz swimming pool and the Rheinpark stadium.
Vaduz's culture and attractions include small theatres such as the Schlösslekeller Vaduz, the Opera Vaduz, as well as the Liechtenstein Art Museum, the Postage Stamp Museum Vaduz, the Liechtenstein National Museum, the Ski Museum Noldi Beck and Vaduz Castle, which is the cities landmark and the seat of the royal family. Other attractions include the Wine Cellars, the government building, the Catholic cathedral, Vaduz Cathedral or the Cathedral of St. Florin.
