Mumbai airport is located at 28 km from the city. Prepaid cabs into the city cost between about 450 and 600 Rs. Cabs in Mumbai are fairly cheap, with a minimum fare of Rs 21 for the first 1.5 km and then Rs 1 for every additional 100 metres. As city trains are very busy at certain times, many visitors will opt for buses. Purchase a bus day pass for Rs 70 (you will need a Smart photo ID card).

Head to South Mumbai or Colaba or near railway stations for budget rooms. Accommodation in Mumbai can be relatively expensive compared to the rest of the country. You can get a bed in a hostel or dorm for roughly 250 Rs. Three-star hotels cost from about 4000 Rs.
