This historical city has lots of culture, heritage and attractions to see. During your visit, spend some time in Rizal Park, Manila Zoo, Malacanang Palace or the National Museum of the Philippines.
Manila has a tropical climate throughout the year. The best time travel is between November to April as the typhoon season generally happens during June to October when it can be very rainy. The Philippines is predominantly a Catholic country with the main holidays taking place at similar times to Europe, e.g. Easter and Christmas. The Feast of the Black Nazarine (Cristo Negro) is celebrated on January 9th. There are also many hundreds of local festivals held for patron saints on the island.
Passports should be valid for a minimum of six months from the date of entering the country. Before travelling to Manila make sure you have basic vaccinations. There's a risk of cholera, hepatitis A, rabies, tetanus, typhoid and diphtheria. When in Manila, avoid drinking the tap water and perhaps even use bottled water for brushing your teeth. Make sure you wash and peel any fruit while thoroughly cooking vegetables before eating. The cost of living in the Philippines is much lower than in the USA.
There are bus shuttle services from five in the morning until ten at night from terminal 3 to Baclaran LRT Station (Line 1). Scheduled bus services are also available between terminals one and two and the central city. You can always take a taxi or jeepney (minibus) into town. There's basic budget hotel accommodation for as little as around 500 Philippine pesos. What's more, luxury hotels are much cheaper than in the west. When it comes to public transport there are plenty of buses and jeepneys, or use the Metro. Ticket prices are cheap, around 22 pesos. If you want travel by taxi, agree on a price before the journey. The local cuisine is a wonderful mix influenced by Spanish, Chinese, Japanese and American dishes.
