Air Austral has 6 aircraft: 3 Boeing 777-200s and one Boeing 737-500, one 737-300 and an ATR 72-500. 2 More Boeing 777-300s have been ordered and are expected to be delivered in 2009.
History
Air Austral was founded in 1974 in Saint Denis, on the island of La Reunion in the Indian Ocean, under the original name Reunion Air Service. In 1987 the airline in Air Reunion was renamed before being given its present name Air Austral in 1990. After the airline had , until 1990, primarily operated regional flights in the Indian Ocean, it has expanded its offer continuously since 1990. Since 2003, Air Austral has also been operating long-haul flights.
Network
The focus of the international route network is in the Indian Ocean area, from the base in Saint Denis and the other hubs, Dzaoudzi on the island of Mayotte and the airport of Mauritius, all destinations in France as well as in Asia and Africa are served, including Antananarivo, Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Toulouse, Moroni, Johannesburg, Mahé and Bangkok.
