Glasgow is a buzzing city still proudly aware of its historical significance as a major Victorian industrial center. These days it is reinventing itself as Scotland's creative hub for culture, commerce and nightlife.

Cold wet winters are a characteristic of the Glaswegian climate but the late spring and early summer months are mellow and an ideal time to stroll the city's parks. Handy tips before you travel

Be aware that cheap rooms can be difficult to find when there is an important football match at Hampden Park or Parkhead or a major show at the SECC. The cheapest, if slowest, option is the local 66 bus to Paisley Gilmour Street for a connecting train to Glasgow Central Station, at a cost of around £3.50. Many budget airline routes use Glasgow Prestwick Airport, around 30 miles (50 km) south of central Glasgow. Direct trains take 45 minutes from the airport to Glasgow Central. Tickets are available at the discounted price of around £3.50 if you show an airline ticket or boarding pass.
