It is located 3 miles east of downtown Phoenix, a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, and was officially opened in 1936 after the city had acquired it one year earlier. The airport can be easily reached from all directions. For example on the Interstate Highway No.10 taking exits 148, 149 and 150
From downtown Phoenix the "Red Line" route of the local transport company Valley Metro operates a daily service to the airport.
Between the Metro Light Rail Station at Washington Street and 44th Street and the terminals there is a regular free airport shuttle. The bus routes 13, 15 and 40 (Valley Metro Transit) also operate a service from the airport to the city.
