Opened in 1940, the airport is about 11 km or 8 miles southwest of downtown Philadelphia. The terminal area is best reached using the Interstate I-95 leaving at the exit signposted Philadelphia International Airport.
The express train R1 operated by SEPTA regularly serves the airport and downtown. The R1 goes to the Amtrak / NJT station (stop 30th Street Station), the metro lines at the Suburban Station and the Greyhound bus terminal at Market East station.
