History
After the Second World War the airport grew quickly and Pacific Southwest Airlines established its headquarters at San Diego airport. The airline began to operate flights to various destinations in California in 1949. The majority of flights from Lindbergh Field go to the west. The first jets came in 1960 with the airlines American Airlines and United Airlines, which flew to Phoenix and San Francisco using the Boeing 720. International destinations are in Mexico and Canada and currently include Mazatlan, Loreto, Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, Toronto and Vancouver.
Behind London-Gatwick Airport, San Diego Airport is the second busiest airport in the world with only one runway. A complete re-localization of the airway and an extension are currently under discussion.
