Information on Ukraine International Airlines
Ukraine International Airlines
Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) is Ukraine?s leading international airline. It was founded in 1992, one year after Ukraine became an independent state. It was one of the first joint ventures with foreign capital in Ukraine. UIA was the first airline in CIS to become a full member of IATA and was the first airline in the former Soviet Union to introduce new Boeing 737 aircraft. Over the years since its creation UIA has satisfied all of the goals set out in its Foundation documents: creating a high quality competitive international Ukrainian airline; expanding and integrating Ukraine?s aviation industry worldwide; introducing the best technology and management methods; attracting foreign investment and earning profits. The founding shareholders of Ukraine International Airlines were the Ukrainian Association of Civil Aviation and Guinness Peat Aviation (GPA) - an Irish Aircraft Leasing company. In 1996 Austrian Airlines and Swissair became shareholders, investing US$ 9 million in new equity. In 2000 the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) invested US$ 5.4 million and became a shareholder. Today UIA fleet consists of 7 modern Boeing 737 aircraft. UIA?s Technical Division has full JAR-145 certification that grants the right to carry out full technical maintenance on western aircraft. UIA operates direct flights to most major cities in Europe operating more than 150 flights per week. In 2004 UIA opens up new markets in the Middle East (Kuwait) and Africa (Tripoli). The airline also has developed a domestic network servicing Ukraine?s regions: Lviv, Donetsk, Zaporyzhya and Simferopol. UIA?s Cargo Division continues to grow the cargo network. In addition to the capacity of UIA?s scheduled network, the Airline operates two freighter flights to Brussels and to Vienna. Direct freighter operations to Vienna were launched in 2003 on An-12 aircraft. Volumes of cargo transportation at Ukraine International Airlines increase steadily year by year. On 25th November 2003 UIA celebrated its 11th Anniversary. Today Ukraine International Airlines has more than 40 representative offices in Ukraine and abroad and you can buy tickets for UIA flights in 70 countries worldwide. With its interline partners UIA serves 3,000 destinations worldwide.
