In December 2009, the airline flew with 6 Boeing 767-300, 6 Boeing 737-500, 9 Boeing737-400, 10 Embraer 170-100, 6 Embraer 170-200 and 6 Embraer ERJ 145.
The airline was launched on 1st January 1929. All private airlines were combined in one national airline. in the beginning LUT flew to Bucharest, Helsinki, Beirut and Athens.
The second world war caused the airline not only to stagnate, but it also meant the airline was dissolved. The infrastructure: the hangars and terminal buildings were
bombed and destroyed. Shortly after the end of the war, in 1945, the airline was relaunched and flights were again operated. In May 1946 Berlin was also on the flight network.
With the fall of the iron curtain, LOT was the first airline from the east to use western Boeing aircraft in 1989. In December 1992, national airline went public. The shares were only finally bought by other companies in 1999. Until then, the Polish government owned 100 percent of shares. LOT has been a member of the Star Alliance since October 2003.
All important airports in Europe are now served by LOT. Long haul destinations include direct flights to Canada (Toronto) and in the USA (Chicago, New York), domestic and regional flights are operated by the subsidiary company EuroLOT. Star Alliance Membership means that since 01.01.2003, LOT has also been able to serve almost all destinations in code share agreements. Since January 2003, LOT has been a fully integrated member of the frequent flyer programme Miles & More, which is also offered by Lufthansa.
