History
The Norwegian low-cost carrier Norwegian Airways was founded in 1993 in Fornebu. For the first 9 years, the airline operated regional flights for the company Braathens, which was Norway’s largest domestic airline. In 2002, the SAS bought Braathens and Norwegian was then free to operate domestic flights under its own name. In the spring of 2003, regular flights were extended to encompass the rest of Europe and the airline also began providing flights to Spain and Portugal. Since then, the airline has grown rapidly and according to their own figures, transports more than 5 million passengers, who mostly book the cheap flights on the Internet.
