History
The airline was established in 1960 with Catalana aircraft, which were used to land on water and land. In 1965 heliports were built in towns and s-61 helicopters were provided to carry up to 20 passengers. But as Greenland began to rapidly develop in the 1960s and 1970s helicopter travel became financially unsustainable thus a switch to flights took place. Air Greenland also undertakes search and rescue operations, as well as functioning as an ambulance in emergencies.

Information on Air Greenland
Air Greenland
Since 1960 Air Greenland - former Greenlandair - has been Greenland's national airline company. Since the early years with Catalinas and DC-4s until today's Boeing 757 and Airbus 330 there has been an immense development within the airline service in the Arctic, where Greenlandair/Air Greenland have been important pioneers. This is how we will continue to be in the future.
