The airport was first in use back in 1939 and is located approximately 16 km or 10 miles northwest of dontown in the municipality of Besovets (Бесовец). Motorists can reach the airport following the signposts on highway A-133. The bus number 101 operates a regular service from the bus stop in Besovets which is about 1 km or less than half a mile south of the airport. Buses serve Gargarin place in Petrozavodsk.
