Newark Liberty International Airport is an international passenger airport. It was the first airport in the New York City area and, at the time of its founding, the largest in the USA.
Newark International Airport is located between the cities Elisabeth and Newark in New Jersey, 16 miles from New York City. The airport operator is the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which also operates the airports John F. Kennedy International and LaGuardia Airport in New York. Newark airport is today to a large extent beng replaced by JFK-Airport.

Newark Liberty Airport is located in Essex and Union counties between the New Jersey Turnpike, accessible via the exits 13A and 14 on the U.S. Routes 1 and 9 as well as the Interstate Highway I-78. Inside the airport, the free AirTrain Newark links the 3 Terminals and the car parks and the Newark Liberty International Airport Station, the airport train station that is inked up with the Amtrak-Net in New Jersey. The Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT) and the George Washington Bridge Bus Station (GWBBS) are also integrated into the regional transport network.

The airport, opened on 10th January 1928, is the second largest base of Continental Airlines, which operates the majority of its flights from the main terminal at Newark airport. In 1984, Virgin Atlantic Airways first flew from Newark to London. In 2003 Newark was the airport with the furthest non-stop connections flying to destinations such as Hong Kong, Singapore and New Delhi.
