Description:
Air One derived from Aliadriatica - a Company established in Pescara in 1983 to operate as a flying school and provide air-taxi services, and subsequently regional scheduled services. In 1988, Gruppo Toto became the majority shareholder and currently controls 98%. This is one of the leading building and civil engineering groups in Italy and comprises Toto Costruzioni Generali SpA. In June 1994, Aliadriatica bought a Boeing 737-200 and thereby began to effect medium-haul scheduled and charter services. This was the first step towards the radical changes that were to occur in 1995. On April 27th 1995, Aliadriatica began effecting scheduled flights between Milan Linate and Brindisi and Reggio Calabria and Lamezia Terme. On November 23rd 1995, the new name Air One was adopted and the Company took its most important step - operating scheduled flights between Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate. This was the first time an alternative Company to the only one authorized to operate this route - the fifth busiest in Europe - was offered. The market reacted with great enthusiasm - over 30,000 passengers were carried during the first five weeks of operations. In 1996 - the first full year of operations - this amount increased to 713,000 and the fleet, network and staff involved expanded rapidly. Recent results confirm the expansion Air One underwent at the very start and opens important prospects for the future. In the year 2000 Air One announced its partnership with Lufthansa, including the admission to Miles&More Program. Air One transported 1.905.753 passengers in 2001. Today the Air One fleet has 27 Boeing 737.
