Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is in Arlington County, Virginia and is the nearest commercial airport to Washington, D.C. the National Airport was opened on 16.06.1941 and although in Virginia, the area was originally an underwater area in the District of Columbia.
Originally Washington National Airport, the airport was renamed after the former US president Ronald Reagan in 1998 but is today still also referred to as National or Washington National, especially in the district of Columbia, the airport is however most frequently known as Reagan National or simply Reagan.
As Washington National is only allowed to be approached from a 1250 mile radius (perimeter rule), the cities of Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Seattle are excepted.

The airport, which is located in the George Washington Memorial Parkway, is accessible via the State Route 233 (Airport Viaduct) or the U.S. Route 1. Interstate 395 is north of the airport and is easily accessible via the G.W. Parkway or the U.S. Route 1.
Coming from the south from Richmond, Virginia take the Interstate I-95 northwards to the I-395, leave the highway at exit 10 (GW Parkway south) and follow this to the exit for the airport.
Coming from the west from Manassas in Virginia take the I-66 east and then Route 110 south to the Route 1 also southwards and leave the highway at the exit for the airport.
Coming from Maryland, Route 1 may be reached from the south from the I-95 via Woodrow Wilson Bridge. Then continue as described above or take the I-270 southwards towards Washington, DC to the I-495 southwards towards Northern Virginia and then the GW Parkway south to the exit for the airport. This may be reached from Washington, DC via the I-395 southbound.
Reagan National Airport is near two Amtrak Railway Stations that may be easily reached using the Metrorail-Systems: Amtrak Union Station in Washington, DC and Amtrak Alexandria Station in Alexandria, Virginia. The 2 Greyhound bus terminals in Washington, DC and Springfield, VA are also linked to the Metrorail. The Yellow and Blue Washington Metro Lines also serve Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport station.
