Stockholm Arlanda Airport is the international passenger airport in Sweden’s capital city, Stockholm, and was opened in 1950. It is located near Sigtuna, 43 km north of Stockholm and 30 km south of the university town Uppsala.
Stockholm-Arlanda airport is equidistant to Asia and North America and is gaining in significance for direct flights to popular destinations such as Bangkok. The old airport in the district of Bromma is now used almost exclusively for domestic flights.
Coming by car from Stockholm, take the E4 in a northerly direction to Arlanda and follow the signs to the airport. In front of the Arlanda Express Terminal at Stockholm Central Station there is also a taxi rank, and bus stations can be found at Terminals 2, 4 and 5. The shuttle bus Nr. 10 provides a free transfer service between these. Shuttlebus Nr. 14 goes to all Terminals as well as to the long-term car park and the SAS Arlandia Hotel. The airport bus (SJ Train Bus) and the Arlanda-Express, a sort of city train, provide a direct and non-stop link to the city centre. Directly under the SkyCity is the Arlanda Central Station, an underground station at the airport, from which there is a direct connection to the X2000 and over 70 nationwide trains run to cities in the Lake Mälaren Valley Region around Stockholm and to Sweden’s Dalarna and Norrland regions in the north. Direct trains from Arlanda C station go to destinations in Sweden such as Uppsala, Södertälje, Gävle, Hudiksvall, Sundsvall, Östersund, Åre, Borlänge, Falun, Leksand, Mora, Nyköping, Norrköping and Linköping. Going from two underground stations there are also nationwide long-distance train services provided by SJ railway company, such as the Arlanda Express high-speed trains and other nationwide train services. The Uppland public transport system (UL), with the so-called "Upptåget” provides a shuttle service between Upplands Väsby and Uppsala via Arlanda with a connection from Uppsala to Tierp and Gävle. The Upplands transport system provides a link to Stockholm Transport (SL) commuter trains. The shuttle bus SL Bus Number 583, goes to Märsta Station, one stop north of Stockholm’s central station, which is also accessible using intercity and X2000 trains. From here there are trains going south to Sollentuna, Stockholm, Älvsjö and Södertälje.
