Description: Oakland International Airport is one of the three international airports in the San Francisco Bay Area in the U.S. state of California. It is also known as Metropolitan Oakland International Airport and is located 4 miles south of downtown Oakland in Alameda County, California.
Location: After construction work began in 1927, Oakland airport was inaugurated in September of the same year by Charles Lindbergh. Boeing Air Transport, a predecessor of United Airlines, began its scheduled flights to Oakland in December 1927, and Transworld Airlines joined in 1932. After the Second World War, Western Airlines returned to the airport in Oakland in 1946, followed by American Airlines, TWA and PSA.

By car the airport may be reached on the Highway 880 towards the north directly via the exit on 98th Avenue, going south the exit to Hegenheim Berger Road may also be used. The local bus lines 50 and N of AC Transit traffic also run to and from the Airport. A total of 75 lines in East Bay run between San Pablo in the north and Fremont in the south. Between San Francisco and San Mateo 25 Transbay lines operate. The AC Transit buses serve all the BART stations west of the East Bay Hills.

Since there is no direct connection to the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) network, AirBART shuttle buses and line 50 of AC Transit will take passengers from the terminal to Coliseum / Oakland Airport Station and vice versa. It is planned to integrate the terminal into the BART system by 2011.
