Honolulu International Airport is the main airport in the city of the same name in the County of Honolulu and the State of Hawaii and is one of the busiest airports in the United States.

The main roads that lead to Honolulu Airport are the Nimitz Highway and the Queen Liliuokalani Freeway Interstate H-1. The Airport Waikiki Express operated by Roberts Hawaii takes passengers at any hotel in Waikiki. Public transport for the city is provided by "TheBus" with the bus lines 19 and 20. The eastern route of both lines go to Honolulu airport via the Nimitz Highway to Kalihi Kai, downtown Honolulu, Honolulu Civic Center, Ala Moana Shopping Center and terminate in Waikiki. The western route of line 19 goes from the airport to Hickam Air Force Base; line 20 to the Arizona Memorial, Aloha Stadium, Aiea and terminates at Pearl Ridge Shopping Center.

Honolulu airport was opened in March 1927 as John Rodgers Airport and is now the main hub of the 2 largest Hawaii-based airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and Aloha Airlines, which both operate flights to various airports on the Hawaiian Islands and the U.S. mainland. Major American and international airlines operate direct connections from Honolulu Airport to destinations in the Americas, Asia and the countries around the Pacific. The main destinations are in Japan and the United States, which are served by the majority of flights. Domestic traffic has increased in recent years, the number of connections has been expanded and even non-stop flights to smaller hubs such as Phoenix, Denver and Cincinnati are operated by major airlines.
