Charlotte Douglas International Airport is the airport in the city of Charlotte in North Carolina. It is about 10 km west of the city and was named after the former mayor of Charlotte, Ben Elbert Douglas, Sr. Charlotte airport is the main hub of the American airline US Airways for domestic as well as international flights. It was founded in 1935 as Charlotte Municipal Airport, before being renamed Douglas Municipal Airport in 1954. It was given its present name, Charlotte airport, in 1982.

The airport is on the border of Charlotte to the west. Motorists coming from the north take the Interstate #85 and leave at exits N°32+33. From the south and the east via the Interstate #77 leaving at exit No°6 and from the west via the Interstate #485, taking exit N°9.
Rail passengers take trains to Charlotte Amtrak Rail Station on N.Tryon Street and then change to bus no. 5 from the nearby Transportation Center (operated by CATS).

The airport has 5 terminals. Regular scheduled flights from Concourse A are currently operated by Air Canada to Toronto; AirTran Airways to Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago-Midway and Orlando; American Airlines to Dallas, St. Louis, Chicago, Miami and N.Y.-LaGuardia; Continental Airlines to Newark, Cleveland and Houston; Delta Air Lines to Atlanta, Cincinnati, N.Y.-JFK, Northwest Airlines to Detroit, Minneapolis and Memphis as well as United Airlines to Chicago, Denver and Washington-Dulles.
Concourse B + E is used exclusively by US Airways which has its hub here and serves several domestic US destinations every day, such as Athens, Buffalo Charleston Columbus, Dayton, Greensboro, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Lexington, Myrtle Beach, Nashville, Pensacola, Raleigh-Durham, Savannah, Tallahassee and Wilmington.
Concourse C is used by US-Airways for its flights to international destinations such as Aruba, Barbados, Cancun, Grand Cayman, Guatemala-City, London-Gatwick, Mexico-City, Punta Cana, San Jose or St. Lucia.
Concourse D is used by US-Airways along with JetBlue Airways to Boston, Fort Lauderdale, N.Y-JFK as well as Lufthansa to Munich.
