General Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport (also called Boston Logan International Airport) is the international passenger airport of Boston, Massachusetts. It is 11 miles east of Boston in East Boston and is one of the 20 biggest airports in the USA.

|
Location:
|
In 1952 the airport was the first in the USA with an express transit connection. Massport’s Logan Express bus line serves the areas of Braintree, Framingham, Peabody and the Anderson Regional Transportation Center in Woburn. The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) operates buses and underground trains to and from Logan. The Silver Line SL1 BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) by MBTA connects the South Station, a main traffic Cross for MBTA Commuter Rail, Amtrak, Red Line subway and buses in the Financial District of Downtown Boston, with all the terminals in Logan Airport. MBTA’s Blue Line subway also has a stop at the airport, which may be reached using the free shuttle buses to and from the terminal buildings.
With the MBTA Water Shuttle, Logan Airport is linked to Downtown Boston, Quincy and Hull, where free shuttle ferries take passengers from the dock to the terminals. By car the airport may be accessed from Boston on the eastern end of the Massachusetts Turnpike (Interstate 90), from the west via the Ted Williams Tunnel. From the south please use Interstate 93 to Masspike to the east, then drive through the Ted Williams Tunnel and take exit 26 to the airport. From the north take the I-93 through the Callahan Tunnel and Route 1A northwards to Logan International Airport, or from North Shore via Route 1A to the south.

First scheduled passenger flights took place in 1927 and connected Boston with New York City. In 1956 the airport was given its current name after the South Boston born Lt. General Edward Lawrence Logan, a hero of the Spanish-American War.
